observations on gear, adventure, and the world

New Gear: ATC Guide

Just picked this little guy up and used it for a few hours in my favorite local gym (since I work in downtown salt lake and live by Big Cotton wood I have no less than THREE local gyms – still a huge shock to this kid from the prairie).

It was light in the hand, thanks to some well placed cut outs, and handled the stiff thick gym ropes with no problem. The belay instructor told me I had to use it in high-friction mode which was a little bit of overkill because my partners for the afternoon were lightweights and I almost had to push the rope through to get them down, in low friction mode things were great. I look forward to getting outside with this guy and putting it through more interesting paces!
