Fall Adventure Awards
This has been a great season for me and the Girl! She’s ripping up the Women’s A race in the Utah Cyclocross (The A’s in Utah’s non-USA Cycling series is like the pro/1/2 race). She’s sitting 5th in the points coming into the final race of her season! I’ve had less wonderful results but some real breakthroughs on the bike in the Single Speed race. We’ve also started climbing again, and are ski setups are getting dialed for the winter!
But enough about us! On to the Awards!
Adventure of the Season – Grand Prize
Goes to Tommy Caldwell for his assault on the Dawn Wall of El Cap! I could go on about this project and TC. In fact I’ve got a very very rambling post that does waiting for me to clean it up. But I’ll give you the coverage as it comes from the folks who were there and who helped make this effort happen (The Caldwells, Kelly Cordes, The Cleanest line/Patagonia, and Kevin Jorgenson)
Here is the story from the Cleanest Line:
First, an October 2010 Climbing Mag interview with TC and KJ about the project. The link is to the topo – the pitches alone would be a heavy tic list for a stout climber – so hit the links to the text.
Kite Dreams on the Dawn Wall – A post from last season’s effort.
Back on the Dawn Wall – Tommy’s first dispatch of this season.
valley update… – From Becca Caldwell on KJ’s ankle blowout and the evolution of the project.
Family Affair on the Dawn Wall – The inimitable Kelly Cordes checks in with the next update for the season.
The Facebookification of Climbing and the Decline of All Things Real – or not – Kelly drops the third update (make sure you check out the link to TC’s facebook page for great pictures of snowcovered portaledges!)
Recap on El Cap – Another Butt-Kicking – Tommy sums the season up in great style.
